DHI. Direct implantation, a single move for every follicle.
DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) implants the follicular units straight into the recipient area, without opening channels first. Each follicle is loaded into a thin instrument, the Choi Implanter, which opens and implants in a single movement, controlling angle, direction and depth.
Four phases, no channels opened in advance.
- 01
Preliminary assessment
We analyse the donor and recipient areas, draw the hairline and define density and distribution before starting.
- 02
Extraction
We harvest the follicular units one by one from the nape with micro-instruments, keeping the donor area intact.
- 03
Preservation
The harvested follicles are kept in controlled conditions, out of the scalp for the shortest possible time.
- 04
Direct implantation with the Choi Implanter
We load each follicle into the implanter and place it in a single move, at the exact angle and depth. No channels opened in advance, less trauma to the skin.
- PROCEDURE LENGTH
7 – 9 HRS
Direct implantation takes longer. A single session, local anaesthesia.
- ANAESTHESIA
LOCAL
You stay awake and feel no pain. No general anaesthesia.
- BACK IN PUBLIC
10 DAYS
The scabs fall off on their own. After about ten days it's unnoticeable.
- FINAL RESULT
12 MONTHS
Growth is gradual. The final shape shows from the ninth month.
What direct implantation changes.
- —
Direct implantation
No channels opened in advance: the implanter opens and implants in a single movement. Fewer steps, less skin trauma.
- —
Millimetre control
The angle, direction and depth of each follicle are managed one by one. Ideal for the hairline and precision detail.
- —
Density where it's needed
It lets us concentrate hair in the right areas, with a natural look especially at the front.
- —
Controlled healing
Reduced skin trauma means smaller scabs and an orderly recovery.
- —
Even without a full shave
Often we can operate without shaving the whole head: handy for those who want to keep their hair short after surgery.
When it makes sense, when it doesn't.
DHI is at its best on precision, not on large numbers. On very extensive areas FUE is often the better fit, and we tell you that beforehand, not after the deposit.
- A sufficiently dense donor area
- Stabilised hair loss
- Localised thinning or a receding hairline
- Areas that require high precision, such as the hairline and detail
- Those who want to keep their hair short after surgery
- A very high number of grafts over large areas: here DHI is slower and less suitable
- Insufficient donor area
- Hair loss still active and not settled
- Unrealistic expectations about the result
What happens, week after week.
- FIRST DAYS
Mild redness, swelling and a feeling of tightness. They ease off progressively, day by day.
- 7 – 10 DAYS
The scabs in the recipient area fall off on their own. They shouldn't be removed by hand.
- 2 – 4 WEEKS
The implanted hairs shed temporarily (shock loss). It's a normal part of the process: the root stays alive under the skin.
- 3 – 6 MONTHS
Regrowth starts gradually. Thin at first, the hair then gains body.
- 9 – 12 MONTHS
The result becomes full and final, depending on the characteristics of your hair.
The rules that make the difference.
- 01Tell the doctor about any conditions and medication you're on
- 02Stop blood-thinning medication only if indicated
- 03Avoid alcohol in the preceding days and cut down or stop smoking
- 04Don't apply cosmetic products to the scalp
- 05Wash your hair as instructed and rest well the night before
- 01Don't touch, scratch or rub the treated area
- 02Sleep with your head raised to reduce swelling
- 03No intense sport, sauna, steam room or pool until cleared
- 04Don't expose the scalp to direct sun in the first few weeks
- 05Use only the recommended products and avoid tight hats
An assessment, in Italian, free of charge.
Send us a photo of your head in natural light (front, profile and nape) via WhatsApp. The doctor looks at it personally, tells you whether DHI is the right technique for your case and how many grafts you need.
